The (long) countdown is finally almost over. The Küchenmeile, and all the other activities on its fringes, is here again. Those who are active in the kitchen sector and want to be up to date with all the latest developments, above all make the trip to North Rhine-Westphalia.
A stretch of the Autobahn A30 in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is sometimes called Kitchen Country. It is there that on the proverbial postage stamp many kitchen manufacturers have their headquarters and factory. Paradise for the kitchen professional, so to speak. Of course, these kitchen manufacturers also want to show off their kitchen innovations, and what better way to do this than with an open house. Organizing those separately could be counterproductive, the kitchen manufacturers thought. Instead, they now do it together, one week a year in September, under the umbrella of the marketing association A30 Küchenmeile. Such was (and is) the success that lots of additional kitchen initiatives have sprung up, mostly by kitchen players without a base in the region. The list of must-see kitchen hotspots thus continues to grow.
So there are 25 of them, the "regular" members of the association A30 Küchenmeile: Artego, Ballerina Küchen, Bauformat, burger, Beckermann Küchen, Beeck Küchen, Brigitte Küchen, Burnout, Express Küchen, n by Naber, Häcker, Impuls Küchen, KH System Möbel, Kuhlmann, Leicht, Menke Möbelwerke, Miele, Nobilia, Nolte Küchen, Optifit, Pronorm, Rotpunkt Küchen, Sachsenküchen, Schröder Küchen and Schüller. Beware: the address of these manufacturers' headquarters is not necessarily the address where they present their kitchen news. For example, the beautiful Haus Beck is the location where, as of old, Bauformat and burger descend, Miele palms one of the restored buildings on the Gut Böckel estate and we find n by Naber in area30.
If only the walls could speak. You sometimes hear people say it to each other when they want to know more about what happened inside. If only the walls of the various buildings on the historic estate could speak, they would undoubtedly tell the most enthralling stories in their hundreds. About how Rainer Marie Rilke, one of the most important lyrical poets in the German language, stayed there (and also gave his name to the street on which Gut Böckel now lies, ed.), about how Martin Heidegger sometimes came to philosophize there, or about how Federal President Theodor Heuss occasionally visited landlady Hertha Koenig. No doubt the walls could also tell many stories about what life was like in the past, as the first mention of the estate dates back as far as 1350. The current owners bought the estate in 1991 and began a thorough renovation of all the buildings. The history of the estate appeals to all exhibitors. After all, you can't spend all days showing the latest innovations and developments in a former barn, stables or goldsmith's shop.
The kitchen industry is experiencing turbulent times, we must recognize that. Despite this current economic situation, it is certainly worth going down to Löhne and its surroundings. We have already mentioned the numerous manufacturers, Gut Böckel is on our list and we are happy to add Architekturwerkstatt (Löhne), KitchenCenter (Löhne), area30 (Löhne), House4Kitchen (Löhne), IDF34 (Löhne) and Art of Kitchens (Kirchlengern). You read it, strict and advance planning is absolutely necessary.
Three addresses within walking distance of each other, that's Architekturwerkstatt, House4Kitchen and KitchenCenter in Löhne. Anyone who has had enough of traveling by car (and weather permitting, of course) has the perfect opportunity to stretch their legs.
The Architekturwerkstatt exhibition center has the wind in its sails. A doubling of the exhibition area to now 4,000 m², the permanent entry of two exhibitors from last year (Dekker Zevenhuizen and Steel) as well as the arrival of a newcomer of note (Bosch) underline this. These three join the renowned brands we know from previous editions, namely Leicht, Liebherr, V-ZUG, Inalco and Gessi.
House4Kitchen is the hub for everything kitchen-related, according to the presentation on its own website. The five brands exhibiting there, namely Franke, Gaggenau, Neff, next125 and Schüller, are using the motto "Kitchen in new perspective" this year. "In a relaxed atmosphere, you can discover the latest collections, experience product innovations up close and make contacts," the brands invite. Those who want to prepare a little for what will be on display can visit the website.
KitchenCenter at Löhne can be found on the same street as House4Kitchen, a few house numbers away. Here AEG, Zanussi, Sachsenküchen, Impuls Küchen, puris Bad and Ozonos gather their latest developments.
Is there still room on your to-do list? Then be sure to add Art of Kitchens at Kirchlengern, just a short distance away. Art of Kitchens is a household name among visitors. Well-known brands in the kitchen industry, such as Bosch, Inventum, Probewa, Quooker, Samsung, Neff and Siemens, gather under one roof and are collectively eager to amaze and inspire every kitchen professional.
The ingredients of a traditional trade fair are an exhibition area with one or more halls, a host of exhibitors and trade fair stands large and small. Trade fair organizer Trendfairs is now organizing area30 at the same time as the Küchenmeile for the 13th time. "We are delighted with the confidence that the exhibitors continue to give us," it sounds. "With about 200 exhibitors, we are filling an exhibition area of around 13,000 m². With this, we hope to once again welcome, inspire, animate 12,000 visitors from 60 countries. Besides all the beauty that our exhibitors offer, we will also provide an interesting program of workshops and seminars and, after a successful premiere last year, we are again building an 'Innovation Area'. The countdown to a new edition is now almost over. Wir sehen uns!"
