The contradiction is enormous and poignant at the same time. Despite the fact that enough food is produced on our earth to feed every mouth, about one in nine people go to sleep hungry. Food waste is one of the major causes. Grundig has been drawing attention to this issue for years.
Eliminating hunger is number 2 in the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals program. Grundig realizes that food waste is one of the biggest causes of the hunger problem and also knows that the fight against food waste starts in the kitchen. 'Respect Food' is the manufacturer's unmistakable mission, and a year-long partnership with 'Food For Soul,' a unique project by celebrity chef Massimo Bottura, draws continuous and global attention to food waste.
Food For Soul saw the light of day in 2015. During Expo Milan 2015, the organization built a soup kitchen in an abandoned theater with the Refettorio Ambrosiano. At the same time, Bottura invited more than 60 international chefs to come and prepare dishes using the world expo's surplus food. After the World Expo ended, Bottura calculated that more than 15 tons of food were saved. The Refettorio Ambrosiano is still open today. More, in the years that followed, similar projects emerged in various places around the world, including Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Olympics. Grundig has been a partner of Food For Soul from the very beginning.
Grundig, of course, does more than just support projects against food waste. By developing innovative technologies and solutions, the manufacturer offers concrete features that keep food fresher for longer. "Just think of our AeroFresh technology that ensures even temperature distribution throughout the refrigerator," the manufacturer explains. "So on all the shelves of the refrigerator you can put ingredients, we make sure they stay fresh longer. The FullFresh+ compartment helps keep fruits and vegetables fresh longer by maintaining a constant temperature and humidity. These are just two of our developments that, fully in line with our Respect Food philosophy, help reduce food waste."
Every year, the iF Design Awards are presented by the iF International Forum Design. Entries competing for the prize, also called the Oscar of the design world, come from all over the world. Those who win this prestigious award know that an international jury has rated the winning product or concept as one of the best. The GR77KN5603V refrigerator-freezer combination, among others, won such an award. "When designing their appliances, Grundig consider three important factors, namely aesthetics, durability and quality," we hear from the jury. "They produce outstanding home appliances time and time again without compromising these core values. With the AeroFresh technology, they apply a technology that uses an advanced cooling system to keep temperature fluctuations
minimize in the refrigerator and preserve food better."
