As a Swiss company, respect for nature and the environment is in V-ZUG's genes. The organization is therefore making solid strides towards a fully sustainable way of working and the sector's future. The company does this by means of energy- and water-saving innovations in their appliances, but also by constantly looking in the production process for how things can be done better and with less impact on the environment.
Consequently, thanks to a series of measures, the factory has been running 100% CO2 neutral since 2020. Yet this does not mean the goal has been reached: as with the economy and performance of their kitchen appliances, they continue to tinker with a green future worldwide.
Household appliances are the biggest energy guzzlers for the average family. It therefore pays off for consumers to choose smart appliances that assist them as economically as possible in their daily lives. For example, with the AdoraDish V6000, V-ZUG was the first company in the world to launch a dishwasher with a heat pump. With the CombiSteamer V6000 45 steam oven, the Combair V6000 60 oven, the CombiCookTop cooktop and CoffeeCenter V60000 45 coffee machine, they set a range of home appliances with stunning performance and an equally impressive A to A++ energy label.
In order not to lose track of so much ingenuity, V-ZUG offers EcoManagement with some appliances. This is a clever way of monitoring the consumption of energy and/or water. It works very simply: the user selects the energy-saving program during washing or drying to run the household even more energy-efficiently. The best side benefit? A lower energy bill!
V-ZUG also strives for the minimum in energy consumption and pollution on a large scale. For example, the production lines for 100% are powered by renewable energy from hydropower, the ZUGgate logistics center in Switzerland runs entirely on energy from its own solar panel park (one of the largest in the canton), and the burdened land area is reduced by opting for vertical factory buildings with a smaller footprint. For the construction of those buildings, sustainable materials - such as local wood (for the Zephyr Hangar) and recycled concrete (for the Zephyr East building) - are used whenever possible. With this latest application of recycled concrete, V-ZUG is realizing the largest project of its kind in Switzerland.
But that's not all: on the shop floor, sustainable (mentality) changes are being implemented both among employees and in day-to-day operations. Examples include a well thought-out waste policy, a mobility plan with a reward system, limited travel policy and a good compensation scheme, et cetera. These are all measures that should help reduce the company's carbon footprint by another 80% by 2030.
